Are You At New Delhi Railway Station-Be Aware

by admin on January 13, 2011

Yes you have to be very alert, otherwise some one will snatch your money out of your purse there at New Delhi Railway Station, let us explain how we suffered..

On 9th we were supposed to attend All India P.G entrance examination so we (4 doctors, Me, Dr Prem Kumar, Dr Mehraj and Dr Liyaquat ) reached New Delhi Station on 8th morning, we took at room at Pahar Gunj side of New Delhi Station. At 10:30 in morning, we decided to go out for break fast and entered a restaurant just in front of gate of New Delhi Station (Pahar Ganj side) its name is Punjabi Vaishno Dhaba you can see the photograph of that restaurant below

Punjabi Vaishno Dhaba at New Delhi Railway Station

This restaurant lies just in front of gate on Station, this market is named as Amrit Kaur Market.

We ordered 8 parathas and nothing else since we were 4 in numbers, we had our breakfast, when came down to give payments, the owner of this restaurant gave us a false slip and started forcing us to give Rs 445, the real bill was of Rs 80 only Rs 10 per piece. We were compelled to give since their persons were all around us, however we complained to Food Inspectors there. This is all we suffered, so please spread this message to all those who are going to visit this area, so that they are not hunted the same way.

hi folks,

Had a similar experience last week, when I travelled to delhi with my wife and kid,got into the same hotel, and was quietly whisked away upstairs, had 6 parathas in all, while the menu card showed the aloo parathas to cost just rupees 10, was expecting a bill of around 100,when went downstairs to pay the bill, got a shocker when the rogue, said the bill was 450 rupees.
I created a big ruckus there, but to no avail ended up paying the bill,as I had my family in tow,,,,,
On my way back in the evening say a scuffle at the same place,,,this time a bunch of jawans,,,,, I ran up to them and told them ,these hoteliers are cheats,,,,,and left the place in a hurry as my wife was scared of the consequences of taking them on,,,,,,all in all a very very bad experience to say the least

hi All,

Had a similar experience few days ago, when I was in delhi alone. I was aware of such tactics in Delhi. The tout outside hotel was coercing everyone with good tone and to make doubly sure I asked the cost of thaali/meals and the tout doubly confirmed that the minimum thaali with subji and saambar and 2 rotis will be 60 only. Again I was forced to go upstairs, when the very few chairs downstairs were almost empty. I should have been suspicious by then, upstairs was no special(no AC or anything special to charge extra). The food included subji and saambar, a very small bowl of rice and 2 rotis and asked the guy serving how much it was for extra rotis who said 5 each hoping the bill to be around 70 rupees for the very little i ate. Moreover the sambar was stale and almost spoilt, thought need not complain. [In between the owner was chasing the servers( 1 middle aged guy and the other few teenagers) for sitting idle when there were no customers with a stick. I felt sympathy for those people especially the middle aged guy and did not even feel bad when he was sitting playing loud music from his mobile in front of me again out of sympathy]. After eating this short meal I expected Rs 70 bill or below 100,when went downstairs to pay the bill the owner called this middle aged sever and asked what I had eaten and quickly wrote down Rs 280 bill and when i asked to explain said 2 rotis is Rs 60 and very small bowl of rice Rs 80 subji 60 and rotten sambar Rs 80 etc(when in fact the very opposite south indian restaurant gives unlimited total rice meals with sambar for Rs 40. Coming from a very middle class family who never cheated to make for living paying even Rs 10 extra feels bad, but here it almost was 4 times the original expected bill. When i questioned saying I had confirmed the price before entering as Rs 60, the owner(In white clothes looked as if he is the next Anna Hazare!!) asked me whom I spoke to initially. i immediately could not find that guy. In between one localite delhi teenage boy was getting a parcel who had more than what I ate and had payed Rs 160 as I asked him what he had bought he said some naans few subji…just then the owner intervened me to pay up and the boy realised these guys had cheated me and afraid he left immediately leaving me alone with the goons around me. Then came a guy looking like south indian with a vermilion, looking like a sacred person. With bad attitude he asked me to step aside so that i don’t disturb the remaining customer. He started abusing me to pay up or will thrash me. Being also from south india I asked him why you people are cheating and what his name was for which he said P V Rao. Being a honest guy myself and having cheated none and afraid of none I resisted for few more minutes also threatened to complain to police. For which the goon said pay up and go and complain anywhere. Again questioned owner who spoke less for fair bill as i was short of money for my travel back home. Then entered the tout guy whom I first met, when i confronted him he said with filthy attitude as if he is about to hit me in my face with fisted hand “sir, I will say many things will you come and eat just because you trust my words” I had no words for such plain lies. The last nail in coffin was the middle aged server who also surrounded me threatening to hit me if i did not pay.(Having helped some poor out of my low capacity and my sympathy for him few minutes back turned into absolute hatred). I was alone among these goons who look for first instance as if good people, made me think twice. Revoltingly took out Rs 300 out of my pocket and threw it into the cash box full bundle of money(probably made by similar cheating) and walked away saying “keep the change” out of sheer frustration.

We are feeling very bad, after knowing your experience, but you saw this article late, our purpose was to save some of people from all this.

saw in sulekha with very good reviews after i got cheated. Surely all those reviews are fake. can’t post review on Sulekha as they ask for my mobile number.

Dear All,
I had a similar incident today as i came a bit early to pahar ganj i decided to have lunch near the station.
The touts were constantly calling out and i decided to enter a so called punjabi khana vaishno dhaba i had a thali and was handed over a bill of 350 rs .
I protested but in vain and was asked to pay up the bill , these shopkeepers have no ethics and are touts .hope this post reaches the chief minister of
Delhi . They do not give a bill and have over charged 300% times .
since i was getting late post the whole episode i decided to pay up and leave .
This incident is the first for me ever at Delhi and will remind me to be careful of this incredible India’s tout zone Pahar Ganj , please avoid this location and never eat from the hotels outside if you do please ask for the rates or menu .
